Objectives

By doing a Doctorate (including the educational activities associated with it), doctoral students will achieve the following objectives.

  • Obtain a detailed knowledge of a specific research topic and familiarization with the literature related to their area of scientific specialization.
  • The ability to recognize problems and questions that are important to research within their area of scientific specialization.
  • The ability to design experimental protocols and to conduct independent and productive research in this area of scientific specialization.
  • Master research procedures and methods, and develop technical laboratory skills.
  • The ability to critically analyze, evaluate and synthesize new and complex ideas in their field of scientific specialization.
  • The development of effective skills (written, oral and visual skills in both English and Spanish) for communicating research practices and results to a less specialist audience, as well as the key concepts in their field of scientific specialization .
  • The ability to promote scientific and technological advances in academic and professional contexts in a knowledge-based society.
  • The completion of a Doctoral Thesis, making an original scientific contribution which represents an advance in knowledge in their field of scientific specialization.
